In 2005 Jim Peterson set up Applied GIS for researchers
whose work depends on those coloured maps that conventional publishers
are reluctant to accommodate.
In 2007 Applied
GIS became free and open source, thanks to
Monash University Library who agreed to store all published papers in
their Arrow repository.
About 80% of papers received by Applied GIS
are never sent for refereeing because they only describe a simple GIS application.
To be published, papers must describe an innovative technique and/or
new knowledge,
and they should relate this to similar research elsewhere.
We encourage submissions by
researchers from both the "applied remote sensing" and the
"applied social science" parts of the GIS community
.
