HISTORY & MISSION - Applied GIS

  • Applied GIS was set up in 2005 by Jim Peterson to provide a publishing outlet for those researchers whose work depends on coloured maps that conventional, paper-based publishers are usually reluctant to make plates for.
  • For the first two years, 2005 and 2006, Applied GIS was published by the Monash University E-Press in Melbourne, Australia.
  • At the beginning of 2007 Applied GIS became free and open source, thanks to the goodwill of the Monash University Library who agreed to store all published papers on their Arrow archiving system.
  • Today, Applied GIS aims to publish only high-quality and useful articles..
  • We encourage submissions, for double-blind peer refereeing, from researchers within both the "applied remote sensing" and the "applied social science" parts of the GIS community .
